Results summary
Based on your replies, your overall health and emotions seem to be good, but something is affecting your sleep, and there is always an underlying cause for that.
You should definitely start taking measures, as insomnia may lead to a vicious cycle:
- Insufficient sleep (among other consequences) prevents the brain from resting properly, and this affects its ability to "reset" every night, and start fresh in the morning.
- This leads to mental exhaustion, which manifests (again, among other ways) in difficulties handling emotions, especially when confronted with bad news, stressful situations, etc.
- During the day, this leads to stress hormones -cortisol, mainly- accumulating, which in turn makes falling asleep harder.
As you see, this cycle "feeds itself", making things worse and worse.
Possible implications
Sleep is a vital process. Explained in a simplified way, it has two stages: deep sleep, which restores the body, and R.E.M. sleep, during which the brain consolidates memories, processes emotions etc. Thus, a short or interrupted sleep can impact:
- the ability our immune system has to fight infections.
- our body's ability to heal and improve (both injuries and maintaining / improving mucscle tone and strenght)
- our cognitive abilities due to lack of sleep.
- with time, our mood, leading to stress or depressed states.
- our ability to act safely in situations where attention is paramount, such as when driving or working in dangerous environments.
- and of course, our quality of life; who wouldn't prefer to enjoy each moment rather than feeling drowsy or completely exhausted?
What we'd advise you to do
Fortunately, there are ways out of this:
- There are several factors that can improve your mood: exposure to sunlight during the day, and to as much darkness as possible in the 3-4 hours prior to going to sleep -this includes staying away of all sorts of electronic screens-, maintaining a quiet environment, and ensuring your body has the nutrients and aids needed to face each day as strong as possible.
- You can also do some light exercise, early in the day. You don't have to jog, or cycle. Just walk, run some errands.
- And finally, we advise you to take a look at our "Sleep Push" formula: in this case we give your body a strong boost of Melatonin, the sleep hormone, Magnesium and Zinc that are essential for nerve health, and extracts of different calming herbs.
